The Indian Premier League (IPL) is going green! Through a partnership with UNEP the popular cricket league is set to become one of the most environmentally-friendly major sports events in the world and bring environmental awareness to millions of sports fans around the world.

In conjunction with UNEP, the IPL is calculating its carbon footprint and examining ways of reducing the overall environmental impact of its operations, from waste management to energy efficiency and water.

UNEP is working with the IPL to find ways to reduce the overall impact its operations have on the environment – from waste management to energy efficiency and water.
UNEP is advising the IPL on calculating its ‘carbon footprint’ and on practical steps to achieve its vision of being climate neutral – such as greening its merchandise and ensuring new cricket stadiums planned for India are built to sustainable standards.

During the season, look out for environmental messages as UNEP and the IPL raise awareness of important issues among millions of cricket fans, helped by all the team captains.

The IPL joins the ranks of global sporting events like the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup which are also working with UNEP to green their events.
