The American Kneeboard Association to Offset Carbon Emissions
September 18-20. Pine Mountain, Ga. Callaway Gardens, Sept. 8, 2009 – The American Kneeboard Association 2009 National Championships’ organizers announced today that it is offsetting its carbon emissions with Carbonfund.org. For the 2nd consecutive year the American Kneeboard National Championships have offset competitors, officials, and family travel to and from the Championships, their hotel stays, meals, local travel, and all towboat emissions used while pulling events.
The organizers have scheduled all events within a mile radius to reduce travel and will take several measures to reduce non-renewable resources during the Championships. The commitment further establishes the American Kneeboard Association as an environmental leader in the USA Water Ski and Global Sport Alliance Communities, and demonstrates the proactive steps the AKA is taking in the fight against global climate change.
Global warming is real. We are all responsible for it. The leadership of the AKA feels they must be part of the solution. The efforts to protect the environment are important today and for future generations. The AKA is helping to support the highest quality third-party validated carbon offset projects that are fighting global warming now.
“The members of the American Kneeboard Association thought that leaving no carbon footprint from last year’s National Championships was such a good idea they wanted to repeat their efforts for the 2009 Nautiques Kneeboard National Championships. Being members of the USA Water Ski and the Global Sports Alliance we will be proud to raise the Ecoflag, the flag the United Nations Environment Program recognizes as a symbol of clean air, clean water and all other attributes of a healthy world! We encourage individuals and all other sport disciplines to consider doing the same,” said John Dicus, AKA Chairman of the Board and National Tournament Coordinator.
The American Kneeboard Association is known as the leading authority of competitive kneeboarding in the United States. The AKA is a water ski discipline of USA Water Ski, the national governing body of all water skiing in the United States.
