“Green Standards” In Sochi 2014 Construction

4 March--Preparations for the development of Sochi 2014 are seeing "green standards" being applied across the board in construction for the first time in Russia.

A Sochi 2014 press release says the "green standards" will ensure that the development of Russia's first Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games preserves the unique nature of Sochi and the surrounding Krasnodar Region.

A coordination meeting on the environmental aspects of the Olympic venue design and construction was held Wednesday in Sochi. According to the press release the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Sochi 2014 organizers to maintain regular constructive dialogue with environmental organizations.

The meeting highlighted the development of a "Green Standards" system, which will see environmental and resource-saving technologies used during Olympic Construction. The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Olimpstroy and the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia have been closely examining the highest standards of international experience in this area to ensure "green standards" are applied to the maximum during Games preparations.

Sochi 2014 has organized a series of orientation seminars based on this global expertise - the first being held March 6.
