Chicago 2016 Joins the Chicago Climate Exchange
22 December 2008--Chicago 2016 has recently joined the membership of the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), the world’s first and North America’s only greenhouse gas emission registry, reduction and trading system.
Through its association with CCX and its members, Chicago 2016 will learn best practices for monitoring energy use and business travel, as well as how to measure and report greenhouse gas emissions. The membership also further demonstrates Chicago 2016’s commitment to climate action and is a step towards creating an environmental legacy for generations to come.
“As a Candidate City, one of our missions is to encourage support for environmental issues and promote sustainable development in sport,” said Patrick G. Ryan, chairman and CEO of Chicago 2016. “By joining CCX as a bid city, we are demonstrating that we are environmentally sensitive, and we will continue these efforts should we be chosen as Host City for the 2016 Games.”
Under its commitment to CCX, Chicago 2016 will be audited to determine its total greenhouse gas emissions. The audit covers businesses operations, total company air travel, automobile use and shipping operations. Chicago 2016’s membership with CCX advances its effort to support environmental issues and promote sustainable development in sport. This knowledge demonstrates Chicago 2016’s ongoing commitment to the Chicago business community and the Olympic Movement.
