G-ForSE Countdown Begins
The countdown to the Global Forum for Sport and Environment (G-ForSE) 2008 has begin with an international line up of sports organizations and federations, sports clubs, sporting goods manufacturers, NGO/NPOs and sport personalities set to take part.
Organized every two years by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the NPO Global Sports Alliance (GSA), G-ForSE 2008 will be held in Alicante, Spain from 4 to 6 October in conjunction with the launch of the Volvo Ocean Race. The Forum, which is sponsored by Volvo, will showcase best practices on sport and the environment to enable sport organizations, events organizers and the sporting goods industry to integrate environmental issues into their activities and events. An exhibition on environmental initiatives will be organized for participating organizations.
The Forum will start on 4 October with presentations on “greening sport” from Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010, South Africa 2010 and Sochi 2014. This will be followed by the launch of the Volvo Ocean Race. The official opening of the Forum will take place in the morning of 5 October with speeches from the Executive Director of UNEP, the President of AB Volvo and the Spanish Secretary of State for Climate Change. This will be followed by parallel panel discussions, workshops on greening of sports events, exhibition, and a closing plenary and cocktail.
