Valderrama Environment Sessions '07

Once again Valderrama, and the Volvo Masters, is the focal point for a review of environmental programmes supported by the European Tour. The Tour’s environmental partner, the non profit body Golf Environment Europe, are holding a series of meetings to present progress on environmental projects in golf, and to discuss future activities.

Notable achievements arising from the European Tour’s support of environmental programmes in the last twelve months include:
1. The development of an Environmental Action Plan for Ryder Cup 2010, which was announced in Austria at the BA CA Open in June.
2. The delivery of a successful environmental workshop at the same event, with participation from many of Europe’s national golf federations.
3. The successful organisation of a further two meetings of the GEE administered European Forum for Sustainable Golf.
4. The initial development of a new Environmental Resource Centre for golf.
5. A series of environmental initiatives at the Alstom Open de France.
6. Support to a number of European Tour venues, and assistance in the development of their own environmental programmes.
7. Further progress towards establishing an environmental certification programme for European golf.
8. Strengthening of working relationships between golf and the European Commission and WWF International.

It is anticipated that discussions at the Volvo Masters will lead to an extension of the Tour’s support for environmental programmes. The Tour would wish to acknowledge the support Rolex have provided towards these environmental activities.
