Athletes Unite to Give Environmental 'Vital Messages'
Vital Messages, a unique collection of environmental photographs
with messages from world-class athletes is published this week. The
book aims to increase awareness and expresses hope for a sustainable
future - for generations to come.
Published by NPO Global Sports Alliance and the United Nations Environment
Programme, the book presents stark images of environmental damage
as well as natural beauty. Each image is enhanced with messages from
world-renowned athletes such as Monica Seles (tennis), Ai Sugiyama
(tennis), Greg LeMond (cycling), Hideki Nakata (soccer), Ilhan Mansiz
(soccer), Hideki Matsui (baseball), Shaun White (snowboarding) and
Isao Aoki (golf). The messages, printed in both Japanese and English,
represent the athlete's reflection on the current state of the environment
and gives a message of hope for a sustainable future where young
athlete's can develop a love of sport and develop in an safe and
healthy environment.
The objective of the photo collection is both to promote the enjoyment
of sports and to act as a trigger for awakening environmental action
among sports enthusiasts worldwide. Through the individual perspectives
of athletes on the world stage, sports enthusiasts will be reawaken
to the importance of the environment and reach a new awareness on
its protection.
This photo collection will be seen as an indispensable environmental
guide for all those that care about sports and the environment.
